About Robert Mitchener:
Retired Former Deputy Sheriff, Robert Mitchener has more than 30 years of direct training in providing Law Enforcement for Wake County high risk communities. In addition, he also provides personal security services to celebrities, entertainers, state government officials and county personnel. He has used his experience with high-risk communities to hep promote community mentoring, which incorporates responsible behavior, bully prevention, drug education and gang violence.
Mr. Mitchener has extensive training and education in all aspects of criminal justice and law enforcement to include screening, triage and referral to corrections and prison systems, specifically targeting at-risk adults and youth. He has 12 years of providing supervision and oversight development for community-wide law enforcement programs, solving law enforcement system issues and ensuring policy.
Robert not only talks about it but he proves it by his actions by doing events, camps and mentoring in the community. Robert knows that children with mentors were more confident and had fewer behavioral problems. Robert is very passionate in his goal to help kids to realize their self worth.
Robert was selected as a member to the transition team for Sheriff Gerald M. Baker when he took the office of Sheriff for Wake County, NC in 2018.
Consistent with law enforcement outcome models and new initiatives, he has a vast knowledge of criminal justice and gang violence prevention.
He has several years of law enforcement mentoring to young African American males. While working with troubled adults and youth, Robert envisioned an intervention and prevention outreach program, which has become Our Youth Matters. Since its inception Our Youth Matters has grown exponentially and currently operates as a non-profit agency, which provides academic support, cultural enrichment and leadership development opportunities for participants. Mr. Mitchener continues to lead the organization as it expands unique programming for youth and their families through the efforts of dedicated staff, supporters, volunteers, collaborative partners and board members.
Robert graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. There he was an exceptional athlete who lettered in basketball. He was accepted into Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina where he studied Business Administration for two years and decided that law enforcement was his calling and he joined the Wake County Sheriff Department.
Robert’s training includes:
Basic Law Enforcement Certification. Advanced Law Enforcement Certification. Dignitary Protection to include Presidential visits. Special Weapons and Tactics. Investigative Procedures and Techniques. Outstanding Team Management Skills. Presentation / Report Preparation. Critical Problem Resolutions and State / Federal Regulation Knowledge.
Robert has also taken Leadership Training courses that include: First Line Supervision, Burden of Command and Civil Liability for Supervisors.
